Change Password for MaxisBB

- MaxisBB account's default password is empty or null so that we should be change the new password to avoid someone easily to hack your account.


1. Open your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or FireFox).

2. Go to Maxis Gateway, URL is http://192.168.1.254

3. Click on the MaxisBB(on your upper left of the web) > 
Change Password >
Old password: (Just leave this field blank)
New password: (Input your password)
Confirm New password: (Input your password)

4. DONE

Log in to Administrator account

- If you log in as MaxisBB, you cannot get the full right to modify the settings of the Maxis Gateway so I suggest that you log in as Administrator account.


1. Open your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or FireFox).

2. Go to Maxis Gateway, URL is http://192.168.1.254

3. Click on the MaxisBB(on your upper left of the web) >
Switch to another user >
User Name: Administrator
Password: (Your Access Key, you can find on the bottom on your router)

4. Click on Administrator > 
Change password >
Old password: (Your Access Key, you can find on the bottom on your router)
New password: (Input your password)
Confirm New password: (Input your password)

5. DONE

Change DNS

- If you do not change DNS, there are some websites you cannot access such as http://www.bittorrent.com/ or porn websites.
- But we cannot change the DNS using Maxis Gateway (http://192.168.1.254)
- Hence, we have to use the below method to change the DNS.


1. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn windows Features On and Off  > tick Telnet Client
2. Press on your keyboard (Windows + R) > Type: cmd 

Type the command below:
3. Type: telnet 192.168.1.254 (Press Enter, then you will see the below output)
4. For Username, type: Administrator

5. For Password, type: Your Password that set at the Maxis Gateway
6. Disable the routers telnet timeout.
Type: env set var=SESSIONTIMEOUT value=0 (Press Enter)
Type: saveall 

7. Type: dns server route add dns=8.8.8.8 metric=0 intf=LocalNetwork (Press Enter)
**Note: the intf is depend on your Maxis Gateway. 
For my case, my intf=LocalNetwork.
You can check your inft/interface at 
http://192.168.1.254/ > Advance Configuration > Home Network > Interfaces 
8. Type: dns server route add dns=208.67.220.220 metric=0 intf=LocalNetwork (Press Enter)

9. Type: saveall  (Press Enter)

10. To verify whether the dns is added successfully or not, you check with the below command:
Type: dns server route list (Press Enter)
**Note: For my case, I get respond: Unknown Command
You can try the alternative command:
Type: dns server forward dnsset list  (Press Enter)

11. DONE

      For my case, I still can call out and receive call.

  2. Im using maxis fibre with astro iptv. Does this dns changes affect astro connection?

    1. I am not the expert in networking. However, based on my understanding, it will not affect your iptv. If it really affected your iptv, you still can change back to default settings anytime.

  3. I have a problem with wechat after Change dns. The download speed for wechat clip/video very slow,please advise how to change back the default dns setting?tq
